Change load for an existing connection

Want to increase or decrease the load on your existing connection?

You'll need:

  • To read WEL’s Network Connection Standards.
  • The site address details and if possible your Lot and/or DP number.
  • Details of your nominated electricity retailer.
  • The name and contact details of your electrical contractor.
  • The contact details of the property owner.
  • The contact details of the person responsible for paying for the electrical connection.
  • Your electrical requirements (number of phases, fuse size, controlled load, and potentially nominated capacity and load profile details).  If you have it, a site plan can also be provided. Your electrician can provide these details.

How long will the process take?

It depends on the complexity of the project, but typically for change load applications it takes between 6-8 weeks to provide a quote. This allows time to:

  • Undertake an electrical engineering capacity assessment of our network.
  • Produce a network design.
  • Undertake commercial pricing analysis.

Providing all relevant information at the start of the process will help ensure it is as efficient as possible.

Do I have to pay an application fee?

We may ask you to pay a non-refundable application deposit to meet the cost of the specialist design and fixed price quote.
