Keeping you, and our network safe is a big part of our role in the community. Our approach to the rules are governed by the Electricity (Hazards from Trees) Regulations 2003.

Maintaining trees around power lines can be high risk so if your trees need attention here's what you should do:

  • If you receive a notification the first thing to do is complete a tree trimming consent form.

  • Contact WEL Networks
Any trees encroaching on WEL Networks power lines may be entitled to one free* trim/fell carried out by WEL (excluding Service Lines). Our qualified arborists will trim the vegetation clear of the lines to the Growth Limit Zone. If you prefer you can arrange a full trim at your own expense.

  • Contact a WEL approved contractor
These contractors are fully qualified and experienced in trimming trees around power lines. Please contact our Customer Services team on 0800 800 935 for advice and contact details of authorised contractors in your area.

You can do the work yourself but only if your trees are outside the Growth Limit Zone. If you're unsure, or if your trees are within this one metre Growth Limit Zone you must use qualified contractors. f you trim or fell any tree and cause a fault, you will be liable for all costs associated with the fault.
