Wel Networks COVID-19 Updates

KEEPING OUR CREWS AND OUR COMMUNITY SAFE

Update: 30 March 2020

Our current focus is on safely operating and maintaining the network and responding in a timely way to network outages. All other non-essential work has been deferred for the duration of the nationwide lockdown.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to keep our crews and our community safe.

WEL Networks have put in place a number of measures to ensure essential electricity services are maintained in the Waikato region as part of its response to COVID-19.

As the situation unfolds, our Incident Management Team are closely monitoring updates from the Ministry of Health and assessing the best course of action to ensure the continued safety of our team and our communities.

"For those of you who have been directly affected by these unprecedented events and the many communities who are dealing with disruption of everyday life, our thoughts are with you. As a lifeline utility, we are and will continue to do everything we can in our power to ensure our communities receive a safe and reliable electricity supply," Chief Executive Garth Dibley.

What we are doing to protect our team and our community:

  • We've closed our office to the public but you can still call us on 0800 800 935 to report an outage or click here to view our outages map.
  • Please do not approach our crew members. Please advise us immediately if you have tested positive for COVID-19 or if you are feeling unwell so our crew members can take additional safety measures.
  • Nearly all office-based employees are now working from home with fault crews working on critical maintenance and outage response.
  • We've asked our crews to take extra safety precautions and to keep a two metre personal distance while working on-site.
  • We're taking extra precautions with additional cleaning and disinfecting across all areas of our business and our equipment and vehicles. Our crew members will also be wearing additional Personal Protection Equipment.
