WEL teams double up for safety to deal with power outages

High winds have caused a number of power outages in Raglan, Ngaruawahia and Bruntwood Road areas.

Approximately 400 properties are without power at present. WEL Services, GM, Mat ONeill says field crews will work through the day to restore power but safety is the number one priority.

"We need to make sure work sites are safe particularly for our staff working in high winds. As such the teams are now double manning for their safety."

Members of the public are asked to stay clear of power lines if they see any down, not to try and remove vegetation or items that may have been caught in lines and to call WEL 0800 800 935.
